Park Place in Leawood is known for offering the best in local retail and services with a heavy dose of charm and elegance, and Timothy Weber fits the bill.
Formerly Hawk’s Nest and Michael Shae, the salon underwent its third reimagining a year ago when Timothy Weber realized a lifelong dream. Encouraged by his life partner and business partner, who he met three and half years ago, Weber made that dream a reality by relocating to Kansas City to be with family and operating Timothy Weber Salon.
Weber runs the creative arm of the business, and his partner handles the financial operation. They are joined in managing the salon by Emily McCoy, who believes nothing is more rewarding than helping people look and feel as beautiful as they truly are.
“Emily is amazing. In fact, the entire staff of 18 is fantastic. I feel so blessed to work with them, and I love that there is truly an environment of ‘team’ and helping each other out,” Weber explains. “If a client needs water and her stylist is busy, someone else grabs it. That’s just how we treat each other and our clientele.”
Timothy Weber is an established stylist and colorist, clocking more than 16 years of industry experience. He has trained with internationally recognized stylists in several cities, including New York and Paris. His team members boast similar resumes, making for a talented roster of artists.
“I have reached where I am with the support of many talented artists and mentors over the years, and I hope I can be that for others in their careers,” he says. “I feel strongly about creating a unique employment opportunity for our stylists; we want this to be a career, not a job. As such, we have plans to create a 401k plan with a match and a continued education program. And we are extremely sensitive to family first — if your child is sick, you go home — no questions asked!”
Timothy Weber Salon offers a wide range of services and features a pricing option that provides a tiered fee system for guests to choose from when booking. If you need a bit of a break on your fee, you can book with a junior stylist to receive a beautiful cut or color on a budget. The salon also offers nail and pedicure services, waxing and brow tinting, as well as massage services if you want a full day of pampered beauty.
“I have a picture up front that reads ‘humble and kind,’” Weber says. “I came from humble beginnings, and I believe no one is better than anyone else. Anyone is welcome here, from any racial, cultural, or socio-economic background. We believe in being inclusive; it’s important to everyone at the salon.”
Stephanie Lewis has been a client for nearly a decade. “I have always left the salon feeling confident, refreshed, and renewed,” she gushes. “For every important event in my life, whether it was my wedding or our first pictures as a family after my daughter was born, Timothy has made me look and feel beautiful. He really treats his clients like family.”
Inherent in his desire to operate his salon was an opportunity to create an experience for both his clients and his stylists that is unrivaled in the city. His vision is that the experience is built upon continuing education and training on the latest trends for stylists as well as a front-end staff that cultivates a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. He wants his clients to feel at home when at the salon.
And the Park Place locale is the perfect backdrop to foster that feeling.
“What I love about Park Place are the local businesses and the vibe; it’s a real small-town feel,” Weber shares. “It’s also very collaborative. Many of the businesses here market and advertise for each other. It’s kind of like a second family.”
While Weber hopes to have someday established a business he can operate part-time — and that will take him into retirement — he’s simply enjoying the moment right now.
“For me, a rewarding day is a full, busy salon with lots of energy and laughter,” he says. “To see everyone happy and enjoying what they are doing, well, that means I’m doing something right.”
